Chicago Cubs Best Team In Baseball Since 100 Years Ago

According to ESPN, the Chicago Cubs have the best record in Major League baseball on June 1st, 2008 since 1908, 100 long years ago. On June 1st, 1908 the Cubs were standing proud with a record of 23-14, finishing the season with a World Championship (99-55). If you are old enough to remember, the Cubs battled the wrath of Detroit pitcher Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford to become victorious in the most poorly attended World Series in history.

Today, the Cubs swept the Colorado Rockies to wrap up a perfect seven game homestand-their first since 1970. With the win against the Rockies the Cubs proved to have the best record in baseball (36-21) since 1908.

The Cubs play 23 of their next 32 games on the road, but the recent momentum swing only suggests the Cubs record will improve. Can the Cubs overcome the many tough challenges of the upcoming season and remain on top? Soriano thinks so!

“We want to play better on the road,” Soriano said. “Now, the team is together, so we know what we have to do. The team is playing like a team now. Sometimes [when] we have a rough road trip, we’re just not comfortable. Now, I think everybody has pulled everything together. We’re in good position.” – MLB.com

Did you know? 1908 was a great year for baseball despite attendence issues, but the fans who attended games during this era will be forever infamous for debuting the song “Take me out to the ball game.”

It is amazing to see how good the Cubs were during the regular season only to see them totally collapse during the playoffs. Hopefully they play better next year.
