Mets Make Offer To Derek Lowe

This past week rumors began to circulate about the New York Mets’ possible interest in right-handed pitcher Derek Lowe.

RBI Magazine has now learned that the New York Mets may have confirmed the validity of that rumor by offering Lowe a contract worth $36MM over the span of 3 years.

No official announcement has been made by the Mets organization in reference to the offer. It is certain, however, that agent Scott Boras and Lowe are interested in seeking a 5-year, $90MM contract, an offer that exceeds the amount offered from the Mets.

According to the New York Times and Scott Boras, the number of teams interested in Derek Lowe has increased since last week. The Mets have recently shown exclusive interest in signing Oliver Perez, but since have now seemed to prioritize working out a deal with Lowe.

The “righty” was 14-11 with a 3.24 earned run average while playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. The Mets number one goal this offseason was to add a starting pitcher into their rotation.

My prediction is LOWE will be a MET by Spring Training……

Mets should also go after MANNY….However the Wilpons might not have the money they say they do …due to Bernard Madoff….

Hey Florida Bob, Thanks for the comment…I agree that Lowe will indeed be a Met by Spring Training if not sooner…as for Manny it looks as though the Dodgers may increase their offer by few million to wrap up Manny for another few years….

We’ll find out about Lowe soon enough, though if needed and this follows the same way with other Omar Minaya tactics, he’ll tack on a doable 4th year with easy incentives to cinch the deal. If he loses Lowe, look for the same exact deal to be thrown at Ollie Perez. I also think Manny is going back to the Dodgers. The Wilpons despise him, and it seems there aren’t many teams outside of Chavez Ravine highly interested in him either. The Mets do need a corner OF stud. Even a couple would be nice. This stuff ain’t happening, but I’d take Dunn and wacko Milton Bradley. Combined they’d be a lot cheaper than wacko Manny per season. Give Murphy a full shot at 2B for pete’s sake, keep Tatis as a 4th OF and backup corner IFer and use Ryan (migraines) Church as trade bait to upgrade the bottom rotation/bullpen depth.
