After losing Derek Lowe and with the return of Manny Ramirez looking like a strikeout, Dodgers fans now need to take a deep breath and hope that Trevor Hoffman accepts an offer made by the Dodgers this morning.

According to multiple MLB News Sources the Dodgers and Brewers have made offers to Trevor Hoffman. The Dodgers possibly offered Hoffman a 1-year deal that includes a club option in 2010 while the Brewers offer is still unknown.

Hoffman, 41, has tallied over 552 total saves for the San Diego Padres over the course of 16 seasons and is considered one of the best closers in the game.

ESPN reports that “Hoffman had a bitter separation with San Diego management in November, when the team withdrew a $4 million contract offer”.

Not a smooth move if you are the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers are highly interested in a closer to compliment their pitchers who contribute setup roles. With Hoffman’s residence only a few miles away, the Dodgers reportedly could be the perfect fit for the pitcher and his family.

Update 4:50 P.M. EST: The Brewers’ offer is reportedly for 1 year as well. Both offers are expected to exceed $4MM.
