There is no doubt that the New York Mets must make a move before this season’s trade deadline. With rumors of Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran possibly being the top candidates to offer on the trading block, one player David Wright, may even be a better choice for the Mets to unload from the roster.
Carlos Beltran has a no-trade clause for the remainder of the season with the Mets, and injuries have definitely impacted his career. His future is a bit uncertain. The Mets could look to trade Beltran, but their ROI might not be that great. Jose Reyes can also become a free agent this winter, possibly making him not the best baseball picks for a club looking for a commitment unless some sort of negotiation for an extension is made.
At this point David Wright is still a great player and continues to give a strong performance on the field day in and day out making him a great candidate. According to MLB Trade Rumors, the third baseman is only 28 years-old and signed to a contract that would pay him roughly $27MM between now and the end of the 2012 season, plus a $16MM club option for 2013 (with a $1MM buyout).
The return on investment for a player like David Wright, could help the Mets organization rebound both on the field and financially. If you were the Mets, would you trade

Yes, I would trade David Wright, Carlos Beltron, K-Rod and Jose Reyes in a second. No hesitiation. Its time for the Mutts to shake up the roster and start over. I would also consider trading Jason Bay & Johan Santana at some point too. Another option if not traded is putting these players on the waiver wire after July 31 and see who takes them. This way you get rid of their salary but get nothing in return just like what the Dodgers did with Manny last August. Sandy Alderson has managed small market teams in the past and I think that the Wilpons got him just to get rid of high priced players. Summary the Mets are not going to win with this group and its time to blow it up and start over. Its better to lose when spendig little to nothing like the Pirates do then to spend big and lose like the 2009 & 2010 Mets. The Mets need develop the team through the draft and stop paying for high proced overrated free agents. If the Mets take this approach they might be decent again by 2015-2016. This will not be a quick fix. The Mets are going to be a bad team for a while till the farm system develops talent. The Brooklyn Cyclones the Mets Short sesaon A-team will be a better viewing experience for a while.
Tom… you have no clue what your talking about. Get rid of Jose. Wright, Beltran, K-Rod, Bay and Santana on waivers and get nothing for them?? your lost dude
Tom … you are a retard i would trade Beltran and even K-Rod and in the future Johan because quite frankly Beltran its his last year. K-Rod we cant afford him, and Johan we are deff overpaying for something we aint getting back. I would invest in the raft obviously because our best players have come from the farm system (Wright, Reyes, Davis) . But the Mets cant afford to just trade every1 nd become the Pirates. He should have players that are paid 13-15 million a year just to fake we are in contention
tom you are a idiot the mets should only trade jason bay for Curtis Granderson
To all of those people who called me idiots. Beltran is gone. K-Rod is gone. Johan if he is still capable of pitching will be traded by the deadline. Reyes left as a free agent. Wright will be likely gone after the 2012 season. Bay got 2 more years left. He might be gone too if he can show that he can post better numbers. The Mets are broke. They got no money. The 3-5 year plan is to build the farm system and then start to compete. The whole division is better than them. Mets as constructed now are a last place team in their division and probably the league too. I expect little from the 2012 Mets.
